Radical Digital Lending for Libraries

From the Zine

“Read your contract thoroughly, and if the language limits fair use, does not allow accessibility functions, or lacks user privacy protections, work to negotiate these clauses.”

“Most ebooks, which often come with restrictive and expensive licensing terms, cannot be ‘obtained at a fair price’ because ‘license’ and ‘obtain’ are not the same legal concept.”

2024 Research Network Award

Amanda Levendowski and Intellectual Property and Information Policy (iPIP) Clinic produced “Know Your Rights: Radical Digital Lending for Libraries.” In an increasingly digital environment that grows increasingly confusing, this zine helps librarians understand the ins and outs and the promises and potential perils of digital collecting and lending in libraries from a legalistic framework.

Funding for this project was provided by the Richard Lounsbery Foundation.

The zine is meant to be read in print format. Print this zine by downloading the print pdf from our website. Select double-sided printing and ensure “flip on long edge” is selected. Collate if printing more than one copy. Stack the pages together, fold, and staple.
