On Our Terms
From the Guide
Libraries work with vendors in delivering a range of library services…. In selecting and using these vendor platforms, libraries navigate ethical and legal dimensions, from patron privacy, data handling and ownership, and alignment with the library’s mission and values.
About the Project
On Our Terms is an open educational resource (OER) creation project that fills gaps in library education by providing modules to help instructors, students, and practitioners become informed on ethical, access, and privacy issues related to vendors and their products.
In eight modules, Dr. Barbara Alvarez and Dr. Eleanor “Nora” Mattern give readers the background, resources, and tools to negotiate with vendors. Through lectures, hands-on activities, and further reading, On Our Terms will equip you to meet the challenges of library-vendor relationships.
This resource was developed as part of the Library Futures Research Network.
On Our Terms is best read online via Pressbooks, where you can also download it in a variety of formats.
